The Department of Youth and Community Development and Nike have partnered to bring to life the Step it Up dance/step campaign. A city-wide initiative that uses sport-arts as catalysts for social change, the campaign will elevate and mobilize young people through the art of dance/step all while empowering teams to engage their communities around causes like education, anti-violence, homeless prevention, inequality, health, HIV/AIDS and the environment.
Dance teams between the ages of 13 – 21 will use their talents to raise awareness around the causes they care most about, develop public service announcements, and create and participate in community service programs. Teams are judged on their community service awareness campaigns, dance routines infused with their service message and online voting. Each dance routine, community service project, and act of public service brings them one step closer to a spot to compete on Broadway in June.
Your cause! Your community! Your Borough! Our NYC!
